A good way of getting more keywords on a website is to put together a glossary of terms. This has two main advantages.
First, by putting in a list of definitions, you make the website more of a content site, and one that will be seen for information. It is a great service to your customers and prospects as well.
A great example of this is Grand Entrances . I helped set up this glossary of terms about doors (and learned a lot while doing it). Now, when customers come to the website, they can better understand what the descriptions are referring to.
Secondly, a glossary allows you to pinpoint the keywords that you want the search engines and users to see. Often, a website has too many keywords to be clumped together on the home page. With a list of terms, you can both inform and educate.

I have just lunched a new version of my site and have increased the amount of content .I now see that i need to also add a glossary .Any thing that will help the search to find me and take me to the top of my competitors .Knowledge is power.

I looked at your site. I would not suggest a glossary, but rather, redo your meta tags. The description tag should be 2 concise sentences, not just a list of keywords.

I was a consultant for years, and am currently an inhouse SEO. In addition to all of the SEO I am also responsible for directing all of the web marketing and traditional communications. I will say that I do havea sense of panic about being spread thin and not staying on top of all of the latest trends and best practices. Dedicating time to participating in blogs and forums certainly helps relieve some of this panic. There is something to be said about the diversity in your skill set as a consultant as well as the ability to test and measure new tactics.Great post!

Great site you have here but i seem to be having a problem subscribing to your RSS feed. Everytime i click it it comes up with error 777. It might be my own Mobile. I have Windows 2000 with bullguard AntiVirus. Im not sure if its enabled. Let me know if anyone else has mentioned any issues or its just me. Im not too good with PCs. Because we are doing our best to keep BoomerTechTalk.com understandable to the layman, we developed a glossary early on. I searched for a while for a plug-in to make it pretty – but I realized that every device we might use, just made it unnecessarily clumsy. Thank you for reminding me of this added benefit of having a glossary. Time to put up that page.

Sometimes you see a glossary on site you wouldn’t it make editorial sense. Sometimes the SEO benefits trumps that though.
I’ve always used sitemaps on my sites and they are always one of the best ranking pages site wide. Your glossary idea has the potential to trump the sitemap page for relevance and keyword targeting. Thanks for this great insight!
A glossary should also help with SEO…google puts a lot of emphasis on backlinks, but they also want to see your content linking to other pages on your own site…a glossary of terms is a great way to create internal links on your own site. It should in turn give you an SEO boost.
